Who is Mark Guynn?
Mark
was born and raised in Manitou Springs, Colorado where he led trail
rides through the Garden of the Gods as a youth. He graduated from
Lamar Community College with an Associates degree in Horse Management
and Training. After graduation he went on to complete an internship
with renowned AQHA judge and breeder, Joe Taylor, in Moab, Utah.
Following his internship and a brief sojourn in Utah, Mark returned to Colorado and started Guynn
Training Center, now located in the beautiful foothills of Berthoud. He
and his wife, Jan, were married in 1992 and are blessed to have seven year
old twins, Luke and Lindsay. The twins are well on their way to being
the next generation of Guynn riders.
Mark is the immediate
past president of the Rocky Mountain Reining Horse Association, and he
and Jan are both involved with the RMRHA Youth Committee. Mark holds judges
cards for the NRHA, NRCHA, and a Special Events card for AQHA.
He is an NRHA money earner, and finished 5th in the Nation in AQHA Open Reining in 2006. Mark consistently produces both AQHA
and APHA World Show Qualifiers. However, he is most proud of his work with youth and non-pro
clients, many of whom qualify for World Show competition.
In 2007 Mark
coached Jama Mickler to a 4th place finish in Amateur Reining at the AQHA
Select World Show, and Jennifer DuHadway who finished 11th in Team Sorting at the AQHYA World Show. Two of his non-pros, Scott Knuth, and Amy
Goldsberry, are qualified for the 2007 World Show in Amateur
Reining.
Mark Guynn is all about his horse and rider teams
having fun while learning and competing. His track record demonstrates that
his approach pays off in the show pen. When Mark is not coaching or
training horses, he loves to spend time with his family or perfecting
his skills in his second "love"; golf.
"Mark is honest, trustworthy, but most of all a gentleman. Mark has the uncanny ability to relate to the young child, the teenager or the adult and his riding lessons are entertaining as well as instructional."

Meet Jan Guynn...
Jan holds up the administrative end of the operation, but is no stranger to the show arena herself. She grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio and rode horses in the Ohio and Kentucky area as a youth. After her first year of college she stayed in Colorado and accepted a position with Candy and Alan Owen doing stalls and other necessary ground work. From there, her involvement in the horse industry blossomed.
In 1982 Jan opened "Horsefeathers", a custom tack shop in Louisville, Colorado. Her primary focus at the shop was designing and building custom show clothes for Youth and Amateur exhibitors. She did many Dress Clinics across the country and enjoyed working with the youth so much that she began a long term serving as Youth Adviser for the Rocky Mountain Quarter Horse Association. She also worked with the Rocky Mountain Paint Horse Association and is now involved with the Rocky Mountain Reining Horse Association. She still serves on the RMQHA Youth Committee, and holds working with the youth one of her most cherished passions.
In 1992 Jan and Mark were married and she closed "Horsefeathers", graduated from paralegal school, and now works in the field of law. Prior to the birth of her precious twins, she was deeply involved in the Paint horse industry showing her stallion, CC
Cowboysuperloot, primarily in Hunter Under Saddle classes. She accumulated over 450 points, earned three Superiors, and several ROMs in just a few years working under the guidance of Leslie Lange.
Showing took a back seat once the twins were born, but Jan is looking forward to the day when Luke and Lindsay can show together as a family with she and Mark.
"I wanted to drop you guys a note & thank you again for all your help and support at the Select World Show, and all year long...I enjoyed telling all the Colorado gals what a great trainer I had when they said 'congrats' on taking 4th place!"
